Will of Thomas Porrett, Scarbrough, Gent.

 

Dated  31.9.1729, proved 10.7.1731 at York.


In the name of God Amen I Thomas Porrett of Scarbrough in the County of York Gentleman being old & something infirme of body but of sound & disposeing mind & memory Praised be God Do make & ordaine this my last will & testament in manner & forme following Imprimis: 

I give & Devise unto my nephew Porrett Lazenby & to his heires & assignes for ever All my Messuages Houses Lands Tenements & Hereditaments whatsoever lying & being in the Town & Township of Hartlepool in the County of Durham 

Item I give & devise unto my sister Elizabeth Bell & to her daughter Grace & to their heires & assignes for ever to be equally devided between them All that my Farm or Farmhold & the severall Closes Lands & grounds thereof or thereto belonging with the appurtenances lying and being in Ryton in the Parish of Kirby Misperton in the said County of York & now in the occupacon of Robert Chapman 

Item I give & devise unto my nephew Scudamore Lazenby & to his heires & assignes for ever All that my Close of meadow or pasture ground lying near Weapness gate in Scarbrough aforesaid & now in the occupacon of Mathew Johnson 

Item I give unto him my said nephew Scudamore Twenty pounds in money as a legacy 

Item I give & devise unto my said sister Elizabeth Bell & to her heires & assignes for ever All that my Messuage house or Tenement with the appurtanences by me lately rebuilt now in the occupacon of Johnson Russell adjoineing on my now dwelling house scituate near a place called Long greece in Scarbrough aforesaid And also All that my Farm or Farmhold & the severall Closes Lands & premises with the appurtenances lying being at Bonwick als Bonwick gate in Holderness in the said County of York & now in the occupacon of John Wyles 

Item I give and devise unto my nephew Thomas Lazenby Son of my late nephew Lovell Lazenby & to Dorothy Lazenby & Grace Lazenby Daughters of the said Lovell Lazenby & to the heires & assignes of them the said Thomas & his two sisters Dorothy & Grace Lazenby for ever equally to be devided amongst them All ........... other Farmes Farmholdes messuages Closes Lands Grounds & Premises with the appurtenances whatsoever thereunto belonging scituate lying & being at Ryton aforesaid & now in the occupacon of Isabell Dowser 

Item i give & devise unto my brother William Porrett & to his heires & assignes for ever All that my now dwelling house or tenement Garth & premises with the appurtenances scituate near the said Long Greece in Scarbrough aforesaid chargeable nevertheless with the payment of twenty pounds a piece to his my said brother William Porretts wife & his two daughters which I do hereby give them 

Item I give unto my late Nephew Daniel Bell's four children each a two & thirtyth part of the ship that was their late fathers 

Item I give unto my nephew Richard Bell half of the ship Comore whereof he is master with all the Slow profitt table & furniture thereto belonging And I give to his two sons Daniel & Richard Bell each three sixty fourth parts of the same ship or vessel & appurtenances 

Item I give unto my Niece Elizabeth Lazenby widow of Lovell Lazenby Forty pounds & to her said two daughters Dorothy & Grace Lazenby twenty pounds apiece 

Item I give to my niece Elizabeth widow of Thomas Lazenby One hundred & fifty pounds And to her two daughters Anne & Elizabeth Lazenby fifty pounds a piece 

Item I give unto my said niece Grace Bell Eighty pounds 

Item I give unto my niece Sarah Fowler a two and thirtyth part of her father's ship & tenn pounds in money to buy her mourning with 

All which said Legacys in money I will shall be paid by my Executors hereinafter named out of my personal Estate But if that should prove deficient Then I will that each Legatee shall bear a proportionable part of that Defect And lastly all the rest & residue of my goods Chattells & personall Estate whatsoever I give & bequeath unto my said brother William Porrett jurat & my said sister Elizabeth jurat Bell they paying thereout my just debts & funerall Expenses And do make & appoint them two joynt Executors of this my last Will & Testament 

Onely on further consideracon I give to my said nephew Porrett Lazenby my two & thirtyth part of Cuthbert Rafton's ship of Hartlepoole & to my neice Elizabeth Goland wife of Robert Goland & her Children a two & thirtyth part of the said Robert Goland's vessel & I give my said nephew Thomas Lazenby son of Lovell Lazenby the other two & thirtyth part thereof 

In witness whereof I have hereunto sett my hand & seale the last day of September Anno Dai 1729
