Will of Robert Porrit, Skelton, Yorks, Yeoman. 

 

Dated  11.4.1792, proved 22.2.1793 at York.

In the Name of God Amen. 

I Robert Porrit of Great Moorsome in the County of York yeoman, being weak in Body, but of sound mind, memory and understanding praised be God for the same, do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament, this Eleventh Day of April in the year of our Lord One Thousand seven hundred and ninety two, in the manner following. 

That is to say I give and bequeath to my dear wife Elizabeth Porrit all my household goods plate linen and furniture, also the legacy or sum of twenty pounds to be paid to her immediately after my decease, 

I give and devise to my eldest son Robert Porrit his heirs and assigns All that my Messuage or tenement with the two Garths or parcels of ground thereto belonging or therewith now or late used or enjoyed, now or late in the occupation of me and my tenant Joseph Porrit, and all those my two Closes commonly called or known by the several names of Balm Bush and Stonehill heretofore purchased by me and my late Father Francis Porrit deceased or one of us of and from Zachary Harnage More Esquire, and also all that my close or parcel of ground commonly called Swindale, all which premises are situate lying or being within the Township of Great Moorsome aforesaid with the appurtenances, To hold the same unto and to the use of my said Son Robert Porrit his Heirs and assigns forever, Subject to and charged nevertheless with the payment of the yearly sum of Five pounds to my said Wife for and during her Natural Life to be paid to her half yearly by equal portions without any deduction for taxes, assessments or otherwise, the first payment thereof to be made at the end of six months next after my decease, 

I also give and devise to my son William Porrit his Heirs and assigns All those my several Closes or parcels of ground lands and hereditaments which I lately purchased of and from Richard Hesleton with the dwelling house and other houses and buildings by me lately erected and built thereon, And all those my two closes or parcels of ground commonly called or known by the several names of the Brick field and Little Syke which I purchased of Robert Harrison, and also all that my close or parcel of Ground (adjoining upon the two last mentioned closes) commonly called or known by the name of Cowclose which I purchased of Richard Harrison and John Harrison or one of them all which last mentioned dwelling house closes or parcels of ground and premises are situate lying or being within the township or territories of Great Moorsome aforesaidwith the appurtenances, To hold the same unto and to the use of my said son William Porrit his Heirs and assigns for ever, subject to and charged nevertheless with the payment of the yearly sum of five pounds to my said Wife for and during her Natural life to be paid to her half yearly by equal portions without any deductions for taxes assessments or otherwise, the first payment thereof to be made at the end of six months, next after my decease And also subject to and charged with the payment of the sum of Two hundred pounds to my Daughter Elizabeth now the Wife of John Robinson of Liverton, to be paid immediately after my Death (without any deduction whatever on account of stamps) and also subject to and charged with the payment of all the just Debts which I shall owe at the time of my Death, 

I also give and bequeath to my said son William Porrit all the rest of my goods chattles and personal Estate whatsoever, he paying thereout my Funeral Expenses 

And my Will is that what is herein given to my said Wife shall be in Lieu and full satisfaction of her Dower or thirds and all other her claims and demands whatsoever for or out of my Real and personal Estate or either of them, 

And I do hereby declare that the provision hereby made for my said children respectively is over and besides my other provision that I have made or shall make in my life time for them or any of them, I appoint my said son William Porrit sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament and I do hereby revoke all former Will and Wills by me made, In Witness wherof I have hereunto set my Hand and Seal the Day and year first above written

I William Porrit sole Executor named in the last Will and Testament of
my late Father Robert Porrit late of Great Moorsome in the parish of
Skelton in Cleveland in the County of York Yeoman deceased do hereby
declare that I verily believe that the value of the personal Estate of
the said deceased at the time of his death did not exceed the sum of
Ninety pounds without any deduction whatsoever As Witness my hand the
22nd Day of February 1793
