Will & Inventory, Jonathan Porritt, Whitby, N. Yorks, Master Mariner.

 

Dated 4.5.1764, probate 23.11.1768 at York.

 

The Last Will and Testament of me Jonathan Porritt of Whitby in the County of York Master Mariner 

FIRST I order all my debts legacys and funeral expences be fully paid satisfyed and discharged 

ALSO I give and bequeath unto my nephew Francis Dobson the sum of one hundred pounds 

ALSO I give and bequeath unto my nephew William Hill fifty pounds to my niece Jane Hill one hundred pounds and to my niece Katherine Hill fifty pounds all the above legacys to be paid within six months next after my decease and I give unto my nephew William Lacy my silver tankard marked W L K 

ALSO I give and bequeath unto my brother George Porritt and to his assigns during the term of his natural life one clear annuity or rent charge of four pounds payable unto him in equal proportions quarterly and to be issuing and payable out of all and every my messuages lands tenements hereditaments and premises situate in Hinderwel or elsewhere in the said County of York and from and imediately after the decease of my said brother George then I give and bequeath unto my brother William Porritt and Ann his wife and their assigns during the natural lives and the life of the longer liver of them the said annuity or yearly sum of four pounds
charged as aforesaid and from and imediately after the decease of my said brother William and his wife Ann and the decease of the survivor of them I give and devise the said yearly sum of four pounds unto my sister Ann Garbutt and her assigns during the term of her natural life 

Also I give devise and bequeath unto my dearly beloved wife Katherine and her assigns for and during the term of her natural life or so long as she shall continue my widow All that my farm and premises situate in Hinderwell in the said County of York and all other my estate goods chattles securitys ready money ships shipping parts of ships stock and profitts thereof and of all other my effects whatsoever or wheresoever and from and after the marriage or decease of my said wife which shall first happen then I order that all my estate goods chattles and effects whatsoever be equally divided into two equal parts one moiety or equal half part whereof I give devise and bequeath unto my nephews and nieces herein after mentioned that is to say . William Garbutt John Garbutt Ann Garbutt Jonathan Garbutt Francis Dobson Dorothy Porritt Jane Porritt Anthony Porritt and Jonathan Porritt equally to be divided amongst them and to their several and respective heirs executors and administrators as tenants in common and according to such estate and interest as I shall have therein or thereunto respectively at the time of my decease AND the other moiety or equal half part whereof I give devise and bequeath unto my wives nephews and nieces hereafter mentioned that is to say Jonathan Lacy William Lacy Katherine Lotherington William Hill Jane Hill Katherine Hill Martha Stockton Robert Stockton Jonathan Punderson and Lacy Punderson equally to be divided amongst them and to their several and respective heirs executors and administrators as tenants in common and according to such estate and interest as I shall have therein or thereunto respectively at the time of my decease 

AND LASTLY I do hereby make nominate constitute and appoint my said dearly beloved wife Katherine
sole executrix of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former and other will or wills by me at any time heretofore made or published 

IN WITNESS whereof I the said Jonathan Porritt have hereunto set my hand and seal the fourth day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and sixty four
