Will of Martha Perrott, York, widow.

Dated 25 March 1721, proved 1721 at York.



In the name of God Amen I Martha Perrott of the City of York widow do make & ordain this my Last Will & Testamt in manner following And first I comend my soul into the care of the Almighty & I desire my body may be interred decently at the discrecon of my Extors hereafter menconed 

and after my debts & funeral expences shall be by them duly paid & discharged I give unto my eldest Son Charles Perrott the Sum of ten pounds wherewith to buy him Mourning And as to his two daughters Elizabeth & Martha I give them the sum of twenty pounds apeice & if both or either of them shall happen to dye before such Legacy shall become payable then the benefitt thereof to rebound & come to such other children of my sd Sons as shall be living at my death 

And whereas at prsent he is unfixed in a house to receive .......... furniture I give my own father & Mother's pictures to be Agreed upon betwixt him & my Son Andrew Perrott w'ch shall have them in...... with a desire that they may never go out of my family but in case of mortality they may go from one of my children to another 

I give & bequeath to my Son Andrew Perrott the sum of ten pounds to his daughter Dorothy Ninety pounds & to his other two daughters Ann & Martha each of them ten pounds & if any of them shall happen to dye before such legacy shall become payable that then the benefit thereof shall rebound to the survivor of the aforenamed Children 

I give & bequeath unto my Son Thomas Perrott the sum of sixty pounds with my pair of large Silver Salvers 

Item I give & bequeath unto my Son George Perrott the sum of sixty pounds with my sett of Silver Casters 

And whereas what I design my daughter Langley is now in her Husbands possion whereof I give ninety pounds to herself one hundred pounds to her Daughter Prickitt & one hundred pounds more left to my Grand-daughter Pricket by my late husband to be paid five years after my death But do desire that the Interest of that may drop wth me as I think it but reasonable it should And as an addicon I further give to my Daughter Langley the Hangings of my Sowed Bed three Blancketts a Boulster & two pillows with the Bedstead & Eight Cushions belonging the S. Bed 

I give & bequeath unto my daughter Barnard the Sum of Sixty pounds with a feather Bed Boulster two Pillows three Blancketts a wrought glass with my own Picture 

I give & bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth Perrott the Sum of Sixty pounds with one Feather Bed quilt Three Blancketts a Boulster two pillows also my Son George's Picture & my peice of work in the Chamber with a Glass over it and likewise I bequeath to her & my daughter Barnard the half dozen of Silver Spoones they brought me a prsent from London 

I give & bequeath to my daughter Mason the sum of thirty pounds & to her three Daughters Martha Elizabeth & Ann I give them thirty pounds a peice & if any of them shall happen to dye before such legacy shall become payable then the Survivor to have the benefitt & advantage thereof And I also give unto my said Daughter Mason her father's Picture & one feather Bed three Blanketts a Boulster & two pillows thereto belonging 

I also devise to my Cozen Graves forty shillings & to his Sister I give the like Sum of forty Shillings and my Mind & will is that if they shall happen to dye before the sd legacy shall become payable that then the Same shall go & remain for the benefitts advantage of their respective Children to be equally divided amongst them 

I also give & bequeath for the benefitt of the Charity Girls in the City of York the Sum of twenty pounds to be applied to that Charity & my mind & will is that all the before menconed Legacys & Sums of money So Sevrally herein before bequeathed (except the twenty pounds to the Charity Girls) shall not be paid till twelve months after my decease or that it can sooner be raised out of my psonal Estate 

And as for the rest of my Linen & plate not hereby devised I give & devise the same to & amongst all my aforenamed daughters equally to be divided amongst them 

And as to my Messuage or dwellinghouse & tenemt wth all & singular the rights members & appurts therunto belonging scituate in Tanner Row  in the City of York I give and devise the same unto my two youngest Sons Thomas & George Perrott and to my three Daughters Mary Barnard Elizabeth Perrott & Martha Mason & to their Heirs & Assigns for ever and I also give unto them the furniture of the said house not herein before devised and my Will & mind is that if any of my Children shall be minded to purchase the sd House that then & in such case he she or they shall have the pferrence to any other purchasor so as not to be sold them for less value than two hundred and fifty 

And as to the rest & residue of my psonal Estate I give to my five Extors hereafter named wth this request to every of them that if my psonal Estate shall happen to fall short & there be a failure to raise & pay what I have herein devised then every of my Legatees to abate in ..porcon to make up such loss according to the respective Sums they are to receive and after the discharge of my funeral Expences debts & Legacies then the overplus to be equally divided amongst my Extors and if it amounts to above thirty pounds a peice to them then I give the addicon of ten pounds apeice to my Son Andrew Perrotts sd three Daughters or as farr as it will go to the making up that Sum 

And of this my last Will and Testamt I make & ordain my sd two youngest Sons Thomas & George Perrott & my three Daughters Mary Barnard Elizabeth Perrott & Martha Mason to be ioynt Extors In Witness whereof I Dame Martha Perrott have hereunto set my hand & seal and published htis prsent writeing to be my last Will & Testamt the twenty fifth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred twenty one Martha Perrott
