Will of John Coulson of Scarborough, Yorks, Master Mariner.

Dated 28.2.1776, proved 2.4.1778 at London.

This is the last Will and Testament of me John Coulson of Scarborough in the County of York Master Mariner made this twenty eighth day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy six as follows that is to say

I give devise and bequeath unto my dear wife Frances Coulson one hundred and fifty pounds to be paid to her out of my effects immediately after my decease and I give and bequeath unto my said wife all such Household Goods plate china linen Furniture and wearing apparel as I shall die possessed of for her own use and sole disposal as she shall think most proper I also give and bequeath the yearly Interest Dividends and proceed of all such real and personal Estates whatsoever and wheresoever as I shall die possessed of or intitled unto in possession reversion remainder or expectancy after my debts Funeral Expences and the said Legacy shall be paid unto my said Wife as before mentioned for her life

and after the decease of my said Wife I give and bequeath to my Father or Mother or either of them as shall be living at the decease of my said Wife and to the surviving one or either of them for his or her life the yearly Interest Dividends and proceed of all such real Estates whatsoever and wheresoever for his or her life

and from and after the several deceases of them my said Wife Father and Mother I give and bequeath all the said Residue of my real Estates whatsoever and wheresoever in manner and form following that is to say

I give and bequeath unto my Brother Thomas Coulson twenty five pounds

unto my sister Jane Coulson fifty pounds

also unto my Sister Nancy Fields twenty five pounds

I likewise give and bequeath unto the children of William and Elizabeth Normandy my Brother and Sister the sum of five hundred pounds to be divided in equal shares among them when they arrive at the age of twenty one years until which time I desire the Interest of the said five hundred pounds may be paid the said William and Elizabeth Normandy or either of them toward the Education of the said children and in case all the said children should die before they arrive at the age of twenty one years and the said Elizabeth Normandy should be then living I will and bequeath the Interest of the said five hundred pounds to my said Sister during her life and after her decease the principal to be equally divided among my Brothers and Sisters as shall be then living

and I appoint Charles Sulsh of London in the County of Middlesex a Trustee to the said children and desire he will take charge of the same and pay such interests and shares as they shall become due

I also give and bequeath unto my Brother Francis Coulson the sum of twenty five pounds likewise my watch and Silver Buckles

after all the aforesaid legacies are paid I desire the residue of my Estates whatsoever and wheresoever may be equally divided among my Brothers and Sisters share and share alike and I do hereby make and appoint my said wife and Father and Mother Executors of this my last Will and Testament in witness whereof I the said John Coulson have hereunto set my Hand and Seal the day and year first above written John Coulson

This Will was proved at London the second day of April in the Year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy eight before the worshipful Francis Simpson Doctor of Laws Surrogate of the Right Worshipful Sir George Ssay Knight also Doctor of Laws Master Keeper or Commissary of the prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the oath of Frances Coulson widow the Relict of the Deceased and one of the Executors named in the said Will to whom administration was granted of all and singular the Goods Chattels and credits of the Deceased having been first sworn duly to administer Power reserved of making the like grant to John Coulson the Father and Elizabeth Coulson wife of the said John Coulson the Mother of the said Deceased the other Executors named in the said Will when they or either of them shall apply for the same Exd  May ye 28 1775
