In the name of God Amen, desimo sexto die maij: Anno Dom 1616 Anno Regni Dm Regis Jacobi, Anglie decimo quarto, Scotioqs quadragecimo nono. I Jhon Buttre of Nesbet in the countye of Durham Gentleman, beinge sicke and weake in bodye but of sound and pfect remembrance blessed be God, do make ordaine & declare this my last will and testament in manner and forme followinge 

First I commend and bequeath my soule to Almightye God, the onely creator & prserver of all mankind, onely belevinge to be saved by no other meanes than by the mediation & merites of Jesus Christ my only Saviour & redemer & my bodye to be buried in the Church of Hart And my goods to be destributed as hearafter followeth: 

Imprimis I give to the poore of Washington pish xLs to be destributed by Thomas Patteson & George Dinnan 

Ite I give to the poore that shalbe at the church at the day of my buriall ech one a id 

Ite I give to the poore of Hartinpoole (scored through.. xxs Ite I give to the poore of munckhesled.. xxs) 

Ite whereas I am Indebted one hundrethe & tenn poundes, it is my will that the Dead and state that I have maide unto Thomas Pattinson & George Dennan, shalbe in force to the discharge thereof, and all other legacies and portions heartofore or hearafter set downe & given by me . 

Ite I give to my brother Jhon Bewick 3£ vjs viijs and to every one of his children xxs a peece wch he shall receive at the handes of Thomas Patteson 

Ite I give to Willyame Bawde for his service done and to be done xj£ xiijs iiijd of the wch some he hath alreadie received v poundes. 

Ite I give Catheren Lambe vjs 8d & to everie one of her children 3s 4d apeice 

Ite I give Richard Bawde the sonne of Willyam Bawde xls to be payed unto him when he shalbe fitte to learne a trade or occupation 

Ite I give to Cuthbert Dobson 3s 4d 

Ite I give to Cuthbert Browne for his service done & to be done to me and to my sonne Raphe Buttre 3£ vjs 8d

Ite I give to Isbell Barkus the daughter of George Barkus v£ to bynde her printice in the exchange at London, wth a silke woman & the said monye to remaine in my sonn Raph Butteryes hand or his assignes untill she be of age to goe. 

Ite I give to George Barkus and his wyfe ech of them vs and the rest of his children beinge thre ech of them iijs iiijd a peace 

Ite I give to Margrat Tweddell and her daughter vjs 8d And to her sonn Jhon Tweddell vs 

Ite I give to my sonne Raph Butterye my [?gerslet?] wth all the furniture belonginge therto, my goulden signet, one salt pcell gilt a silver bowle, & a doussen of the best silver sponnes, that he cane chose, and the other dowsen spownes I give to my daughter Margaret Butterie. 

Ite I give to my sonne Raphe Buttrye the best over sea coveringe that his mother bought. 

Ite I give to my said daughter thre hundreth poundes for her filiall portion if she will be advised by the supvisors of my will to pay her three hundreth pownds in [?free?] yeare if not to pay her xx£ pr yeare untill it be payd by my executors but not to come in William Porrets hand but to be for ye good of her and her children 

Ite I give to Mr Jhon Watson vs. 

Ite I give to Gregorie Rashell vs 

Ite the rest of my goods & chattels not bequethed I give & bequeeth to my onely sonne Raph Buttrye whome I make & appointe the sole executor of this my last will & testament And I also make my [?assured?] freindes Mr Francis Wiklife, Mr Anthonye Dodsworth, Mr Robert Porret, Mr Thomas Pattyson & Thomas Tweddell supervisors of this my will, desiringe them to advise my children for their good & I give to everye of them xs apeice.

In witnesse hearof to this my last will & testament I have subscribed my name the day & yeare above written

I Jhon Butterye confesseth this heare written to be my last will & testament in the prsence of those whose names heare followeth as witnesses
