Duncomb, kt. v. Prisick  1708

Brief notes only:

Complaint of Charles Duncomb, Citty of London, Knight

- Has been seized of the Desmeasne of Rivalx for 13/14 years

- concerns a 'great pcell' of waste ground in Billsdale, Carlton Scugdale & Whorlton (Note: this is part of what is now the North York Moors. Carlton Scugdale is more commonly known as Carlton in Cleveland)

- details a dispute over the boundaries between Bilsdale and Carlton/Whorlton

- Since the purchase of Carlton estate by Christopher Prissick (Note: purchase known to be dated to 1695), CP has claimed ground which the complainant contends is part of Bilsdale estate.

- Christopher Prissick has also diverted some waterways on the disputed moor to supply his Allom works in Carlton.

- sets out the case for the disputed ground always having been part of Carlton.

- quotes Francis Sparling 'now a very old man yet living'

- mention of Mr George Marwood & Henry Marwood one of whom was uncle to Sir Henry Marwood's father about 87 years since, and was possessed of portion of the manor of Carlton & sold the same to the Bruces (Note: CP purchased Carlton from the Bruces)

- quotes George Marwood Esq, son of the said Sir Henry Marwood & about the same age as Christopher Prissick & a freeholder in Carlton
