Pressicke v. Marwood: York. (c.1611)
Brief
notes only, (note also that this document is in poor condition, and
writing to both left & right extremities is obscured):
Complaint
of Christopher Pressicke of Carlton & Henry Mealham (or Mallam?) of
Carlton (Note: this is Carlton in Cleveland, N. Yorks) (?dated
1.12.1611?)
- Concerns a bond to William Marwood Gent to pay certain severall sums of £40, £20, £10, claimed to be long since satisfied
-
"...certain meadow grounds called the long meadowe...... situate in
Busby in the County of York .... on or about 9 April in fowerth year of
his majesties regne..".
- leased to Christopher Pressicke for 21 years, but when the agreement was drawn up, claimed that htis did not tally with the original agreement.
- The said Christopher Pressicke "being a simple man & one that cannot write nor read".
-
Not altogether clear, but it appear there is a threat to evict
Pressicke ?due to a debt due to the King?, which should have been
discharged by Marwood.
- Pressicke appears to be complaining
that the all bonds have been satisfied, but Marwood keeps on coming
back for more. Even notes that at some stage he has had a yoke of oxen
worth seven pounds from Pressicke.
- Notes that Marwood has initiated a case for debt at the Court of Common Pleas at Westminster
