Burton v Porret (1689)

Complaint of George Burton of Askrigge, Yorkshire, principal creditor of Francis Porrett, who died intestate in Akrigge.

- claims that widow and other creditors conspired to remove possessions of Francis Porret decd, and thus avoided paying the principal creditor after he had procured letters of administration.
- William Silliburne is the son in law of Abigall Porret

Answers of Abigall Porret, William Silliburne, John Metcalfe & Stephen Wood defendants


- Abigall is the widow of Francis Porrett who died intestate in Akrigg
- provide a list of household goods
- some household goods were the property of Dorothy Scott, Abigall's daughter (& now the wife of John Wells of Stockton) and Joan Neile, widow another of Abigall's daughters
- All the rest of the household goods were the property of Robert Snadon or Snowdon of Normanby Hall, her former husband, and by him given to her (ref Consistory court of Richmond)
- complainant was the principal creditor
- sale of goods to satisfy other creditors (ie John Metcalfe & Stephen Wood the defendants) was on 8.3.1688
- defendants lived alongside Francis Porrett in Askrigg while he lived there, which was about 2 years.
